Thanks for the introduction, where were we?

At the time of writing this, It is cold outside today. Like really cold. So lets get on with the list of the 7 things you can do in Winter, in White Rock, BC:

First Reason: Local hockey in the city of White Rock and South Surrey

The Surrey Eagles homepage, a team that plays in the BCHL

You’ve got the Surrey Eagles playing out of South Surrey Arena, who are part of the mainland division of the BCHL. You will want to go catch some really fun hockey to watch with your family, so I definitely recommend going to check out the Surrey Eagles.

At the time of writing this: They need you there to cheer as their last winning season was in 2012/2013, but they’re working really hard to get that title back.

Now if you live closer to White Rock:

You’ve also got the White Rock Whalers, they’re part of the Pacific Junior Hockey League playing out of Centennial Arena. Centennial Arena is a little bit of a smaller venue than the South Surrey Arena. Thus, South Surrey Arena with the Eagles is a little better set up. The crowds, of course, are a little bigger at South Surrey Arena as well.

But either way, you’re in for an excellent evening of hockey, no matter which team you choose to go cheer for.

Reason Two: Indoor Swimming

Here are some of the great options that you have to go for a family swim or an individual swim in White Rock or South Surrey.

Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre from the AES Engineering YouTube Channel

Grandview Heights Aquatic Center which features a 10-lane, 50-metre FINA-standard Olympic-size competition pool with a 500-square-metre leisure pool. It’s got everything you could want for the family as well. Including amenities like a lazy river, a water slide, saunas, hot tubs, diving boards, and In fact, as high as 10 meters. And yeah, it’s got seating for up to 800 people.

Now, the Grandview Heights Aquatic Center is not your only option in South Surrey, White Rock. You can also check out the old South Surrey Indoor Pool, also featuring multiple lanes for swimming, open pool, diving, weight room, and sauna and hot tub.

No matter which one you choose, you’re going to love them both.

Reason 3 (And we will combine 4): White Rock Museum & the White Rock Pier

This is the perfect rainy day activity, which is visiting the White Rock Museum and then going for a stroll afterwards on the White Rock Pier.

White Rock has got an incredibly rich history, starting with the Coast Salish people and the Semiahmoo First Nations who still live in the area today.

White Rock was a Canada Customs stop, then became a mill town, which then became a summer cottage vacation town. Well, and then, of course, the word got out, and now it’s just a really popular spot for people to come live.

Visiting the White Rock Museum will let you see all of the incredible photos that have been taken over the course of history of the city of White Rock, including some of the epic sandcastle competitions that have been held at the pier, seeing how the pier used to look, including its attached swimming area, as well as the restaurant that obviously is no longer there, but used to be at the very end of the pier as well. It’s a pretty fun way to explore the history of the city.

And after you explore the history the city, why not pop outside and see what it looks like today, going for a walk on Canada’s longest pier and trying to find the spots that you see in all the cool photos that you just visited at the museum.

Reason 5: Clancy’s Tea Cosy

Hey, let’s not just go for lunch. Let’s go have afternoon tea. That’s afternoon tea at Clancy’s Tea Cosy, of course.

They claim to be White Rock’s best kept secret, and they just might be right. You can stop by to go enjoy some of their savouries, as they call them. Small little handheld bites that are going to get you through the hunger, as well as enjoy some of their beautiful teas from around the world. And yeah, they got sweets, too. Scones, sweets, you name it, they got it.

What’s really neat about visiting here is the experience. It’s not something you normally get to do, so why not check it out when you’re looking for something to do and it just might become your new favourite afternoon adventure.

Afternoon tea, at the tome of writing this blog post in 2024, is only $35 per person, and you can also just stop in for lunch if you want to go say hi and check it out before you commit to full afternoon or 90 minutes of your tea experience. Tea drinking experience would be a better way of saying that.

Reason Six: 3 Dogs Brewing and Live Music Show @ Blue Frog Studios

This has got to be one of my personal favourites to do, and that is grabbing a pint at 3 Dogs Brewing and then heading over to Blue Frog Studios for a music show.

3 Dogs is one of White Rock’s very own local brewing companies, and they have got a massive footprint in the city of White Rock, where you can go sit on their beautiful patio in the summertime, obviously, or go enjoy the live music and environment as well their delicious snacks while you’re hanging around on the inside.

I’ve got to be completely honest that their beer is some of my absolute favourite, and I love beer and I’ve tried a lot.

Why not start out your late afternoon or early evening at 3 Dogs Brewing for a pint and head over to Blue Frog Studios to catch some live music.

Blue Frog Studios is actually a live recording theatre. Simply jumping on their website, you can see the array of shows that they are putting on on a regular basis, oftentimes with cover bands or cover artists that are singing and performing as some of your most favourite artists that are out today.

This is an absolutely awesome way to spend a weekend evening. And the best part is they’re right across the street from each other.

Reason Seven: Sledding down the hills at South Surrey Athletic Park

Well, this brings us to our last activity, and that is sledding down the hills at South Surrey Athletic Park in South Surrey, just to here up the road from White Rock.

Hey, look, if you get a snowy day and you’re looking to get outdoors with your family, this is the #1 thing that gets my kids grinning from ear to ear.
